Renowned for its all-terrain performance and reliability, the Toyota Land Cruiser has become among the world’s most beloved off-road vehicles. Introduced in 1960, the third-generation “40” series also offered a surprising degree of on-road comfort. The 2-door hardtop variant shown here was powered by a 3.9-liter F-model gasoline engine, paired with a part-time 4-wheel-drive system. Its popularity only grew in 1974 with the introduction of the 3.0-liter B-model diesel engine. The 40 series went on to become a massive success, remaining in production until 1984.
