About
In 1998, Toyota developed the GT-One (TS020) with the singular goal of winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Designed by André de Cortanze, the car incorporated Formula 1-inspired aerodynamics and suspension. Although mechanical issues prevented a result in its debut year, the GT-One returned in 1999 as an evolved LM GTP machine. Ukyo Katayama and company finished 2nd overall—the highest-ever at Le Mans for a team composed entirely of Japanese drivers.
