Espace F1 '95

Ten years after the debut of Europe’s first minivan came the Renault Espace F1—an unprecedented creation that redefined the limits of imagination. At its heart resided the RS4 3.5-liter V-10 from the 1992 Formula 1 championship–winning FW14B, mounted amidships within a body crafted from aluminum and carbon fiber. Producing 788 HP, it rocketed from 0-62.1 mph in just 2.8 seconds and reached a top speed of 196.4 mph. This extraordinary machine was even driven on a real circuit by F1 legend Alain Prost, among others.

It's been said that the European minivan boom of the 1980s was sparked by the Renault Espace. The series had a powerful Formula One variant known as the Espace F1. This car was proposed to Renault by Matra, the company that had initially constructed the Espace's fibreglass body. At the time, Renault was hailed as the reigning champion of Formula One. Transplanting a RS4 unit from their winning F1 machine of 1992, the FW14B... Matra sought to pay homage to Renault's Formula One success and, at the same time, mark ten years of the Espace. Clothed in an almost entirely carbon fibre and aluminium body, this car swapped out its third-row seats for an F1 engine mounted midship. And its test run was piloted by none other than F1 driver Alain Prost! This is one unorthodox minivan that can really sing its way around a track.
