Porsche also developed the 911 GT1 Strassenversion—a road-legal counterpart to the 911 GT1 race car built for GT competition between 1996 and 1998. While the headlights were updated to match those of the Type 996, the core construction of the car remained nearly identical to its racing sibling. To comply with emissions regulations, the engine was detuned to 536.5 HP, yet the car still managed a 0–62.1 mph sprint in just 3.7 seconds and reached a top speed of 191.4 mph.
