The XJ220 was named for its record-breaking top speed, reaching 220 mph (220 mph), making it the fastest road car of its time. Production was managed by Jaguar Sport, a joint venture between Jaguar and Tom Walkinshaw Racing. It was powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V-6 derived from the XJR-11 Group C race car, mounted to a chassis constructed from aluminum honeycomb and carbon Kevlar composites. Beginning in 1993, the XJ220 also saw competition in GT racing, including entries at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
