About
To fully exploit the MINI’s outstanding handling characteristics, the British Motor Corporation joined forces with F1 constructor John Cooper to develop this high-performance variant. The 970 S emerged as a special version, its engine displacement reduced to 970 cc to comply with specific racing class regulations. Whereas the standard 848 cc engine delivered 33.5 HP, this tuned iteration generated an impressive 65.1 HP. Despite a limited production run of just 963 units, the car achieved remarkable success in touring car competitions.
