BMW announced its entry into the FIA GT3 category with the M6 GT3, beginning in the 2016 season. At 16.4 ft long and 6.6 ft wide, it presented a noticeably larger footprint compared to its predecessor, the compact Z4 GT3. Gran Turismo series producer Kazunori Yamauchi competed in the Nürburgring 24 Hours behind the wheel of the Walkenhorst Motorsport M6 GT3, finishing the race and placing 22nd overall.
