About
Making its debut in 1969, the Fairlady Z was among the first Japanese automobiles to make a mark on the international stage. The standout variant was the Z 432, which featured the S20 inline-6 DOHC engine—borrowed from the Prince R380—rather than the standard L-type unit. Producing just under 157.8 HP, it also proved its mettle in motorsports competition. The 240Z, the U.S.-spec version powered by a 2.4-liter engine, helped cement the Z’s reputation after strong showings in the Safari and Monte Carlo rallies.
