About
The ZR-1 name first appeared in 1990 as a special high-performance package for the Corvette. At its heart was the LT5 engine, which featured an aluminum alloy block and a DOHC 4-valve head co-developed by Chevrolet and Lotus. While the standard Corvette engine produced 246.5 HP, the LT5 delivered 374.8 HP. Despite its price tag—twice that of a base Corvette—it’s said that Chevrolet made very little profit from the model, underscoring its role as a halo car rather than a volume seller.
