The fourth-generation Corolla Levin was introduced in 1983. It carried over the floor panel from the previous TE71 and was the only model of its generation to retain a rear-wheel-drive layout, while all other Corollas had transitioned to front-wheel drive. The 1.6-liter 4A-GEU DOHC engine and lightweight body delivered a sharp, responsive driving experience. After production ended, demand for affordable rear-wheel-drive cars only grew, securing this model’s legacy as one of the greatest sports cars ever produced by Toyota.
