About
In the early 1950s, the American sports car market was largely ruled by European imports. It was during this time that Chevrolet introduced the original Corvette. The first models featured a forward-thinking design, combining a steel frame with lightweight fiberglass body panels. Power came from a 3.8-liter inline-6 producing 149.9 HP. Initially built as a limited run of just 300 units, the Corvette quickly captured public interest, leading to full-scale production beginning in 1954. That year, output was increased slightly to 152.9 HP, and by 1958, the Corvette gained distinctive quad headlights.
